Treatment Philosophy
Every step of care is intentional — diagnosis before treatment, evidence before prescription.
We establish a working diagnosis before any medication is introduced — because treatment should follow understanding.
Medication is a tool, not a default. Prescribing is evidence-based, monitored, and adjusted as the picture evolves.
Cognitive and behavioral strategies integrated into care — not just session exercises, but real-world application.
The goal is return to daily life. With your consent, we coordinate documentation and support toward that end.
What We Offer
Private-pay, HIPAA-compliant, and available in Arcadia or anywhere in California via telehealth.
A comprehensive 60–90 minute intake to establish a clear, working diagnosis and individualized treatment plan. This is where care begins — before any medication is prescribed.
20–30 minute follow-up visits focused on monitoring, adjustment, and review. Evidence-based prescribing with careful attention to your response and evolving clinical picture.
45-minute sessions integrating structured cognitive and behavioral strategies. Goal-directed and functional — built around outcomes, not open-ended exploration.
With your consent, Dr. Chen can coordinate with employers, case managers, or other providers regarding your functional status, work capacity, and return-to-work planning. Documentation and letters provided as appropriate.

About Dr. Chen
"Treatment should follow understanding — not the other way around."
Dr. Allen Chen is a board-certified psychiatrist with a deliberate, data-informed approach to adult mental health. He trained at NYU School of Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency at UC Irvine, where he developed a focus on accurate diagnosis as the foundation of effective treatment.
His practice is structured around one principle: clarity first. Before any medication is introduced, Dr. Chen works to understand the full clinical picture — psychiatric history, functional baseline, and what matters most to each patient. Treatment is measured, not rushed.
